FOR CHILDREN ABOUT 5 TO 12

A chore board the children can use.

Bumblebeak is a family clubhouse for jobs, routines and rewards, on iPhone and iPad. Each child has their own face, their own jobs and their own points. You choose which jobs need your yes before the points count.

01 · WHO’S HERE?

Each child taps their own face.

Bumblebeak opens on Who’s here?, the Family tab. Each child finds their portrait and taps it. Until they do, Jobs, Routine and Rewards wait in the bar below. On iPad the faces sit in three columns.

Their name, points, colour and chosen friend stay with them. Leaving for Photos or Files keeps the same child. Choosing a face never opens the parent side.

Marco, Ali and Jo are the sample kids. Tapping a face here only changes this page’s colour.

02 · JOBS

One job, then the next.

Jobs opens on that child’s name and one job, drawn big. Bumblebeak shows how to do it. Tap Listen and their own friend reads it out loud. The child taps “I did it!”

Most jobs add their points straight away. A job you set to need a photo, or a look from you, waits instead and says so in words. Only your approval adds those points.

The result stays on screen until they pick another job. On iPad the rest of their jobs sit beside the big one.

03 · ROUTINE

The steps, in their order.

A routine is that child’s jobs in the order you set, one step at a time, with progress they can see.

A five-minute timer can help them start, and it can show on the Lock Screen. The timer never awards points. Each step follows the same rules as any other job.

04 · REWARDS

A treat they can see coming.

You add real treats and what they cost in credits. The child picks the one they are working toward and sees how close it is. Exact balances and costs sit under How it works.

Asking for a reward sets those credits aside. Cancelling gives them back. You approve the request, cancel it, or mark the treat as given. Lifetime points and spendable credits stay separate, so a treat never wipes what they have earned.

05 · HATCH A FRIEND

Every 20 job-days, a new friend.

A new child starts with one welcome egg. Three taps crack it open, and a surprise animal and colour comes out. With Reduce Motion, one Open egg button does it without the animation.

Each day with at least one job that counts is a job-day. Every 20 job-days brings another egg. Waiting and try-again work does not count, and a missed day never resets the count.

Friends live in My look, where the child picks who to show. There is nothing to buy, and no duplicates.

A FRIEND, FOR SHOW

The egg on this page is not a household.

In the app, the egg is saved to that child before it opens. Here it only shows the idea. Tap it three times.

FOR GROWN-UPS

You hold the PIN.

Parents opens with a six-digit PIN, kept in the iPhone keychain. Choosing a grown-up’s name does not unlock it. It locks again when the app goes to the background or another face is chosen.

Inbox
Approve a job, or ask them to try again, after seeing any photo. Approve, cancel or mark reward requests as given.
Chores
Tick ready-made chores from about thirty ideas, grouped by room, and add them in one go. Or write your own. Points, and how often it repeats: once, daily, weekdays or weekly. Term time or holidays only, with NSW school calendars built in or your own dates. Whether it needs a photo, or a look from you.
Rewards
Real treats, and what each one costs in credits.
Family
Add someone, and pause or resume their chores.
Routines
Put a child’s jobs in order.
Settings
Quieter sounds, the encrypted backup and the recovery key.

Setting up asks for your household, your name, a first child and a new PIN. You can start with three everyday chores and a movie reward, then change them.

ON IPHONE AND IPAD

Help where they already look.

The same board, the same rules, wherever the child finds it.

  • Listen

Their friend reads the job out loud in a bright, friendly voice, for children still learning to read.

  • Photo jobs

A picture from the camera, Photos or Files. The app keeps its own copy, and you see it before you approve.

  • Waiting, in words

Done and waiting are written out, with a tick or an hourglass, so nobody has to guess.

  • Siri

Ask for a child’s next job by name, or say it is done. Photo jobs stay in the app, and work that needs your look still waits.

  • Home Screen widget

Shows one child’s job and progress, with the same rules as the app.

  • Lock Screen timer

A running routine timer shows on the Lock Screen. It never awards points.

  • Their way

Pictures or a simpler board, chosen for each child in My look. Sounds can be turned down in Settings. Larger text and Reduce Motion are respected throughout.

  • One household, backed up

The family lives on the device, and children do not need Apple IDs. An encrypted backup opens with your recovery key. It is a backup, not live sync between phones.
